Physician Assisted Suicide And The Art of Care

Monday, March 31st, 2008

By Sam Oliver In an age of managed care, rationing of care, and technological care, there is The Art of Care. We live in a society that has been given various choices to self-determine ones destiny in dying as one has been able to self-determine ones destiny in life itself. We have medicines and technological capabilities, and areas of the country allowing us to hasten or postpone ones dying. The purpose of this position paper is to outline the legal, ethical, religious, and philosophical ramifications involved in Physician Assisted Suicide (PAS) and how affects of such decisions effect those connected to this issue. The pros for PAS are: People should have the right to die with dignity People should have the right to die with their senses intact People should have the right to die free of pain People should have the right to take charge of futile care The cons for PAS are: Slippery-slope effect, or acceptable and unacceptable euthanasia No policy is able to effectively govern the scope of the right to die True wishes are hard to discern due to communication challenges Playing God I am simply giving an overview, and not, a detailed analysis on this issue. My intent is to surface the issues in PAS and move toward a philosophy of care that can minimize peoples fear of death by the utilization of a type of care = The Art of Care. The Art of Care will help people gain inner strength that can enable him or her to cope with the external losses happening to their body. At the end of this paper, I hope to outline practical ways people can help terminal patients cope with a dying body from a place inside them that remains steadfast their soul. It was Karl Barth who said that it is for God and God alone to make an end to human life and that God gives life to us as an inalienable loan. It is my belief that we are given meaning and hope in all life situations. This instinct to survive and find value in all of our existence leads me to trust that there is much to learn in all phases of our life. Our ability to trust our Creators divine guidance and plan to make us more soul than body at the end of life is just as important as other aspects of living as well. We may do well to trust more and control less. It appears that maturity teaches us all to let go and follow a path inside us that does not always make sense to us externally. As we do, we begin to follow insight. To see from within what cannot be seen from without is our souls longing to be known and to surface in our lives. In On Liberty, John Stuart Mill cautions, A person should be free to do as he likes in his own concerns, but ought NOT to be free to do as he likes in acting for another, under the pretext that the affairs of the other are his own affairs. Autonomy is so important to us that science, as well as religious communities strive to honor and respect it. For within autonomy is the ability for one to discern for him or herself ones needs, values, and destiny. This is a movement into the art of care (science and religion) can work together in forging a healing response on the level of soul when physical cure is no longer possible. On the other side of this issue, it is evident that the Oregons Death with Dignity Act has had its impact on America. Some people want this service available even if it is not chosen by a great number of people. The Oregon s Death with Dignity Act has been used very sparingly and a slippery slope does not appear to be in the present forefront. In 2001, twenty-one Oregonians chose to end their lives by ingesting a lethal dose of medication prescribed by a physician, accounting for 0.33% of the 6,365 Oregon deaths from similar diseases. The number of Oregonians opting for physician-assisted suicide has remained fairly stable, ranging from sixteen in both 1998, the first year the law was in effect, to twenty-seven in both 1999 and 2000. Clearly, there is no landslide in the making. It seems then, that people still want to have some sort of control in their dying and autonomy remains prevalent throughout the issue with PAS. This strong need to determine ones path in the face of suffering offers us hope, faith, and love in a sense of the self not easily defined without losing the grandeur of a trust within oneself to be led by the same power that brought our lives into being. It is here that we turn to the art of care to help us when curative care no longer has any answers. Here, we begin where we end, in that we trust in the very wisdom that has created us. How to Get Out From Under Too Many Payday Loans

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Larry_Mitchell]Larry Mitchell Although payday loans are excellent ways to cover for those unexpected bills that pop up in our daily lives at the worst possible times, people can often be sucked in to costly, high interest loans quickly and easily. The best way to counteract a problem with payday loans is to curb the debt before it begins. As a good rule of thumb, you should only use a payday loan as a last resort. Also, only take out a large enough amount of money to cover your expenses or tide you over until your paycheck arrives. The vicious circle continues as individuals who rely upon their monthly check find it taken by the loan company to repay the payday loan. If you find yourself with several payday loans and a mountain of looming interest, know that there are options. Many individuals are quickly overwhelmed with the situation and hastily file for bankruptcy. This should be your absolute last option, but do not panicthere are many more suitable options. First and foremost, stop taking out payday loans. As soon as you can break the cycle, then you can begin to dig yourself out of debt. Also, before you agree to any loan, research the loan rates and fees. Check out Web sites like [http://www.basiclingo.com/wst_page4.html]BasicLingo.com for a comprehensive look at competitive rates. Second, evaluate your situation. Whichever debt has the higher interest payment should be paid off first. If possible, consider taking out a larger loan with a lower interest rate to completely repay your payday loans. This way, you will only have one low payment each month. Third, even as you are paying off your loans, you should continue to save money. Many individuals neglect this important step and find themselves without a rainy day fund to use in case of emergency. Instead of turning to a payday loan to cover unexpected fees, consider creating a savings account for those events that seem to happen at the most inopportune time. Petroleum and Cosmetics: What are the Potential Health Risks?

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By Lori Stryker What is petroleum? Crude oil, sometimes called petroleum, is a fossil fuel that was produced deep in the earth through a process that took millions of years to complete. Millions of years later, almost all of us come into contact with a derivative of petroleum every day. Through a process called fractional distillation, petroleum refineries break petroleum into many of its smaller components. Each of these smaller components is made up of molecules called hydrocarbons. The world is full of products that come from petroleum. For example, gasoline, styrofoam, lubricating oils, and many other items are all derivatives of this raw material. How are petroleum and cosmetics related? The two seemingly unrelated items, petroleum and cosmetics, are indeed closely related in our modern world. Mineral oil and petroleum are the basic ingredients in many cosmetic products today. Both mineral oil and petroleum have the same origins in fossils fuels. Cosmetics such as foundations, cleansers, and moisturizers often contain mineral oil. By locking moisture against the skin, mineral oil sits on the skins surface and can potentially block pores. This may cause the appearance of pimples because the skin cannot properly breathe. Fragrances in lotions, shampoos, and many other cosmetic products are composed of aromatic hydrocarbons. Perfumes and products containing fragrance can contain many hundreds of chemicals to produce a distinct scent. A significant number of these aromas are derived from petroleum. One popular chemical additive that carries moisture in cosmetics is propylene glycol. It is also a derivative of petroleum. Some products that list propylene glycol as an ingredient include: - anti-freeze - laundry detergent - paint - shampoo - conditioner Past research links propylene glycol to serious health problems as liver and kidney damage as well as respiratory irritation or nausea if swallowed. An antiseptic, isopropyl alcohol, kills bacteria on the skin. You can find it on the ingredient list of cleansers, toners and other cosmetic products. Unfortunately, this derivative of petroleum dries the skin and may cause miniature cracks in the skin that allow bacteria to enter, potentially causing irritations or pimples. Do these petroleum-derived products affect your health? Your skin covers your body and acts as a physical barrier to many of the pollutants in the atmosphere. When you use products on your skin such as cosmetics, lotions, and shampoos, the ingredients in these products come into direct contact with your bodys largest organ; your skin. You may ask yourself, where do the ingredients in the products go? Modern research at the Herb Research Foundation found that the skin absorbs up to 60% of the chemicals in products that it comes into contact with directly into the bloodstream. Today, hormone therapy treatments and smoking cessation medications are often prescribed as patches that you apply directly to the skin. The medication passes through the skin and directly enters the bloodstream. For pregnant women, the risk is not only for her body but also for the developing fetus. If the chemicals found in cosmetics readily enter the bloodstream when applied to the skin, then they will also reach the developing baby. Researchers at the Brunel University in England are looking closely at a family of preservatives called parabens. Their research has recently linked parabens to the possibility that male babies will have lower sperm counts. These preservatives are derived from petroleum and help to maintain the freshness and integrity of the product. Currently, many manufacturers add parabens to cosmetics to allow a minimum of 3 years shelf life. Therefore, the parabens kill any bacteria that could potentially enter the product. If these chemical ingredients can kill the bacterial cells, what are they doing to your skin cells? In most cases, there is no conclusive answer to this question. However, the research mentioned strongly suggests that the synthetic ingredients may have a significant impact on our bodies. In many cases, the long-term effects of many of the chemical additives in our cosmetics are not known. However, other chemical additives are known carcinogens. These types of chemicals can cause cancer in humans. Such chemicals include some artificial colours in cosmetics. The effects of chemicals and other synthetic ingredients in cosmetics may lead to mild allergic reactions causing rashes and minor skin irritation to more significant problems such as lesions on the skin. What are your alternatives for cosmetics? Luckily, there are alternatives to cosmetics filled with synthetically produced ingredients. Increasingly, cosmetic manufacturers are answering the publics demand for alternatives to the chemically loaded beauty and grooming supplies. The Organic Make-up Company is one such company that is leading the way in producing high-quality, organically manufactured cosmetics! As a consumer, you have the ability to decrease the number of preservatives and chemical additives your skin comes into contact with and therefore, that may enter your body. To avoid using the synthetically derived fragrances, look for products containing essential oils. These are pure oils derived from flowers and other plants in nature. All you have to do is make the simple choice of purchasing cosmetic products with all-natural, organic ingredients. Whether you continue using cosmetics that contain petroleum-based ingredients or not is a personal choice. What is the most important is to get the facts and to know that you have a choice when it comes to buying organic or synthetic cosmetic products. References: - Fairley, Josephine. Supermarkets and the Financial Sector

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

By Tosif Patel The financial sector in the UK is very very broad - perhaps one of the broadest in Europe - with very few barriers to entry for the large corporations who can show a high degree of financial strength. One group of companies who have really opened up to the loans, insurance and general financial sector are the supermarket - with influential giant Tesco again leading the way. Why are the supermarkets so influential? The main reason why the supermarket giants are so influential is their size, and the fact that they touch almost every member of the population of the UK, on a regular basis. It comes down to that old fashioned human trait, ease of access - or laziness as some may describe it! The more items and services which are available in one shopping trip, the more chance of more and more people taking advantage. While shoppers were initially wary of buying financial products from their local supermarket, this scepticism soon disappeared on the back of massive advertising campaigns by the majors. It seems that every store you visit now a days offers extremely attractive loans or saving rates. While the headlines and advertising will refer to Tesco for example, the majority of these services are administered by a banking partner, who will administer the service on behalf of the supermarket group. What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages? While the pros and cons of this type of service may differ from person to person, there are a few common aspects to consider. The advantages are fairly simple: One stop shopping - your every day needs under on roof. Attractive rates - because the supermarkets enjoy your custom with or with out any financial services purchases, any additional business they receive is a bonus. That way they can offer very attractive rates, with their traditional banking partners running the service. Simple - fill in a form, post, and await their reply. The disadvantages are: Lack of advice. The majority of these services are postal application - with no advice given. Lack of accessibility. While traditional banks offer a walk in service, this is very often not the case with the supermarket financial service arms, making them less attractive for many potential customers. There is no doubt that the supermarkets have given the more traditional banks something to think about, due in the main to their every day access to potential new customers. Customers who are often very trustworthy of a particular supermarket brand, while maybe a little less trusting of the traditional banking community. Learn How to Read and Interpret Her Many Body Languages

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By Chris Walker Dude, was she winking at me? A womans mind operates differently than a mans. When it comes to dating and sex this could not be a more evident statement. While men are more straightforward and direct, women tend to use signals and various body languages to let men know what they want. Body language is something that is extremely important when it comes to approaching and seducing women. You need to learn how to accurately interpret womens many body languages so you can know from the very start if you have a chance with them or not. No need to spend any more time on them than necessary, right? By observing her body language, you will be able to tell if she is into you. Youll be able to sense when she is horny, annoyed, excited, angry, depressed, or in a good mood. So its imperative that you learn how to interpret these emotions through her many body languages. Key signals and body language to look out for When giving you a signal, a woman is subconsciously telling you to go for it. But for you to fully understand how this works you must realize that there are two different sets of body languages. First, you have the signals that she gives you before you actually talk to her the across the room signals, for example. Then you have the in conversation signals she subconsciously gives you. Before you go running over to her, here are three important body language cues and what they mean Touching you as she speaks. Whenever a girl touches you during a conversation (i.e. touches your leg as she laughs at your jokes), she definitely enjoys your company. Now what you want to do before you jump to conclusions is see how she interacts with other people. Is she still touch feely? Or is she keeping her distance? You will know what those touches meant once you see her talk to other people. Gazing into your eyes Does she seem to be in a trance when you talk to her? Eye contact is probably the most important of all the body languages I mention. This is because a woman has no control over her pupil dilation when she is sexually excited or aroused by a man. So stop looking at her breasts for one second, guys. Look deep into her eyes- they tell the whole story. Dont I have beautiful hair? When a woman constantly strokes and touches her hair while looking at you, she is uncontrollably attracted to you. Try to see of her palms are facing you. This usually means she is open to anything as long as it involves you. You can tell what shes thinking be observing her body language Reading different body languages will save you an enormous amount of time. Not only will you be able to easily spot even the most unlikely candidates (sexual candidates) with ease, you will know what they are thinking every step of the way. Wrapping things up Unconsciously, women try to attract men with subtle, yet strong indicators of attraction. They cant help it. Their body language illustrates this. Obviously there are hundreds of other important body languages that women use to get a mans attention. I just wanted to briefly explain why reading and interpreting body language is so important to your dating/sex life. Learn how to seduce women with exclusive secrets tips and strategies that few men use. Gain the upper hand and get any woman you desire with ease. Seducing women is something that has to be learned and I show you exactly how. An Open Letter to the Teens in the Restored Church of God

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Dennis Diehl I realize an open letter to anyone for any reason usually does not reach the intended audience. But an open letter is an attempt to draw attention to something that is so profoundly wrong that attention still needs to be drawn to the topic. This is an open letter to the teens, AND adults who are affiliated with the Restored Church of God under the leadership of David C Pack in Wadsworth, Ohio. I am writing in response to the following article and associated commands to teens AND adults in RCG to refrain from blogging on the internet or having a personal website, unless strickly for business, as now being forbidden by RCG, according to this article. The intro to the article is as follows. This is from the Ambassador Youth Magazine, as written by Kevin D. Denee on behalf of the leadership of the Restored Church of God. “Blogs and God’s Youth The blogosphere enables people to share daily journals, photographs and audioinstantly. But should teenagers and others in the Church express themselves to the world through blogs?” Obviously, from the intro kids, the answer is going to be “NO, you should not be blogging.” It’s going to take some time to get there, with typical warnings about pedophiles and giving up personal information to the web, which is wise, but this is just the intro to the real point. That point is summed up nicely near the end of the article and is the whole point of all that preceeded it, which I will also comment on for your own sakes. Here is the conclusion of the matter for teens, AND adults, so lets be clear, the article was not written just for teens after all and is a warning to ADULT church members to also avoid blogging and websites that are not approved by “the Church.” “To teens and others,” is code for “everyone had better be listening to me.” Let’s go right to the conclusion first. I’ll let the author of the article speak for himself… “The Conclusionand Solution So what have we learned? Recall that a blog provider stated, with blogs there are no rules. This is obviously not true with God. He does have rules and guidelines, but not everything is spelled out in the Bible. We must take principles and consider the overall big picture. Should teenagers and others in the Church express themselves to the world through blogs? Because of the obvious dangers; the clear biblical principles that apply; the fact that it gives one a voice; that it is almost always idle words; that teens often do not think before they do; that it is acting out of boredom; and it is filled with appearances of evilblogging is simply not to be done in the Church. It should be clear that it is unnecessary and in fact dangerous on many levels. Let me emphasize that no oneincluding adultsshould have a blog or personal website (unless it is for legitimate business purposes). When this policy, now being instituted, was discussed with Mr. Pack and other Headquarters ministers, there was not a shadow of doubt in anyones mind that blogs are something youth should not be doing in any way. As has been said before, Jesus Christ and His Church have standards. Those who desire fewer standards should go to the splinters or to the world. When trying to justify something, teenagers will often narrow in to specific areas, and say, Well this particular thing isnt wrong! They will then use this as proof that the larger thing is okay. Do not allow yourself to think this way. Consider all the elements we have discussed. Blogging has become a socially accepted practicejust as are dating seriously too young, underage drinking and general misbehaving. But just because someone else jumps off the cliff does not mean you should do the same. Some questions naturally arise: Can I have a photo gallery? For example, maybe you visited an exotic country and want to share your photos with close friends. This can be done, but certain guidelines apply. Of course, there should never be any inappropriate pictures (again, be careful of the appearance of evil); it should be private and password protected, and only shown to family and closest friends. Is this article saying that every blog in the world is wrong? No, of course not! Again, there are some professionals and specialists who use blogs to serve a proper purpose.”Kevin D. Denee. Restored Church of God. Most of you have read the entire article or should. In the run up to the final decree that you are not to have blogs, or read blogs of others, or even have a website, as well as YOUR PARENTS, unless they are in a professional business, you were reminded that you are really out of line to even want a voice to begin with and that you having a personal voice is vanity. Your pastor has a personal voice all the time and subjects you to two and four hour sermons telling you that his voice is more important than your voice. Let’s look at the article again. “But what does this have to do with blogs? The Internetand more specifically blogshas enabled everyone to have a voice on any matter. Now everyones thoughts are published for all to see. Whether or not it is effective, as soon as something is posted the person has a larger voice. It often makes the blogger feel good or makes him feel as if his opinion countswhen it is mostly mindless blather!… Ask yourself, Do I have a tendency to want to have a voice? …The level of shallowness and emotional immaturity this represents is astonishing! In the grand scheme of things, why would the world at large care? People naturally want to make a mark in this world; they want to make a difference, and many believe blogs will allow them to do this. However, most blogs, especially by teenagers, serve as nothing more than public diaries. (Of course, there is nothing inherently wrong with a personal diary, as long as it is kept private.) Although certain professional weblogs can make a positive difference within some elements of society, teen blogging does not.” So there you have it. You’re voice is invalid, unimportant, shallow, makes no difference, one that no one wants to hear anyway and ultimately just blather. Ask your Pastor if he had a voice when he was a teen and would he be willing to extend to you the same rights he did have as he sought out what seemed to be truth for himself as a TEEN. The answer to the question, “Do I have a tendency to want to have a voice?” is not the same as asking you, though it is framed in such a way, as “Do you have a tendency to lie, cheat and steal?” The question is asked in such a way as to make you feel badly for saying “yes” even though yes is the only answer there is for most normal people. When your church or government get your voice, you have lost your freedom and your mind. You are being told that to have a personal voice, which means personal views, opinions and the ability to observe what is going on around you with a critical eye and thinking, is vanity. The article goes on to say… There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness. There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! And their eyelids are lifted up (Prov. 30:12-13). If you post mundane details of your life, you are in effect saying that your life is important and that people should read about it. Also, whether or not you admit it, having a blog with your name, your picture and your opinions strokes the human egoit lifts you up. It essentially advertises the self! Many teenagers say, Listen to me, world, and what I have to say, when they should be focused on changing and cleaning up their lives. If you blog, are you sure you do not partially enjoy it because your carnal nature is inclined toward vanity?” The author is making it sound like you say you are researching porn but, in fact, he thinks you like it.Please understand, that your church’s website, you know, the most stupendous, largest and bestest on the whole planet, according to your Pastor, is a glorified blog of Mr. Pack’s name, picture, opinions, ideas, interpretations and views too. No one man embodies truth, no matter what you have been led to believe. If you doubt it, go see how many sermons he allows others to post on the site or how many of the explanations of all the doctrines, beliefs and rules are left for others to write and define. So to blog is to be vain for teens. That is a lie. You are told that your words are idle, you only blog because you are bored and that you aren’t smart enough to avoid the appearance of evil. Continuing… “Young people should spend time doing things that are productive. Our goal in life is to become a more effective personto get baptized into the Church and build holy, righteous godly character for the rest of ones life. But what does blogging ultimately achieve? Nothing! Some claim blogging is therapeutic. If that is the case then here is a classic example of someone therapeutically expressing himself: Im feeling sad againso many things I cant tell anyone and so many feelings I need to cope withdont even try to ask me why, and start telling me it will help if I let it out. I know it wont help. Trust me, telling will make me more troubled than I already am. but just ur listening/reading my [expletive] posts is enough to make me feel better. thanks Talking is therapeutic. It helps one clarify one’s thoughts when no one else will listen. I did not speak up often enough in WCG because I did not want to let the people down by getting fired. I am sorry I did not speak up more. I also believed what I was being told, which proved to be a lie as well. I deeply regret this lack and fear on my own part. The reason we don’t talk to real people in real time is because we perceive that they are not listening or will give us a very impractical an unhelpful answer to real problems. Phone calls are therapeutic. Letters are therapeutic. Talking face to face is therapeutic, and blogging can also be therapeutic. And yes, you have be wise about who you share with, but that’s not the issue here. Most humans aren’t as stupid as this article makes them out to be. Finding out that others feel and think as you do and that you are not “nuts” or “weird” or “off base” all the time, is very therapeutic. It is a wiseman in this day and age that has close friends and good counselors. It’s the people who will not listen to any voices but the ones in their own heads that you have to be careful about. Just so you understand, your Church and Pastor now forbid you and your adult parents from blogging on the internet, having a blog of your own or having a personal website unless associated with a business. You need to understand that there are reasons behind these reasons such an obscene rule is being instituted. While blogging, like phone calling or letter writing or smokes signals can have a downside, there is more to this than meets the eye in your particular church. It is a way to control the flow of information, criticism and presenting views that are counter to those accepted by the Restored Church of God and it’s leaders. The internet is the bane of those that abuse or seek to control and that includes our own government in this day and age. Soon you will hear something from the pulpit as ridulous as “We regret to inform the congregation and we do so with deep sadness, but Mr. and Mrs. so and so, and Johnny Teen has been disfellowshipped from the True Church for blogging and maintaining an unapproved website for their own selfish, egotistical and treading on thin ice reasons, against Church policy. We pray that God will cause them to repent of this electronic sin and for thinking that they can have a voice in this Church of God or the world in general or that they could say anything that would be or any remote interest to anyone.” Banning you from blogging is no different from burning your books. Your church equates blogging with dating too young, underage drinking and pre-,marital sex. They tell you that just because others jump off a cliff, does not mean you should. How’s that for good reasoning. If your friends shoot themselves, I am sure they would also advise you not to do the same. Good thing as they give this advice or, sure enough, you would all up and jump like lemmings into the sea. This “just because others…” thing has been a tool of parents forever and will be yours too someday! It’s what we say when can’t think of how to say it well. The bottom line is that you belong to a church that needs to control your intake of good information as well as what might be thought of as “bad” information. They also don’t care what you think and don’t want you expressing it to others. They don’t want you discussing theology, Bible inerrancy, history, other points of view or truths that are more true than the ones you get fed every week in church. The sure don’t want you discussing the points made in a previous sermon, even though that sermon has commands for you to follow that effect your life big time. Frankly, all churches fear the internet because information is scary to those that would have you believe you are getting all you need from just one true source. You are not. NO ONE on this planet has the right to tell you what you can read, who you can talk to, what topics you can share personally if you choose or how you choose to give or get that information. Our government is also trying like mad to keep the average American from questioning a lot of things that have gone on in the last five years, and before. Your motives for doing so are not as evil as this article makes them out to be and you are not as stupid as this article portrays the average teen these days. Everything you do needs to be done with wisdom, caution and discretion, but you will not learn how to do this if you are forbidden from taking the class. Religion and government has been trying to control the free flow of information since time began. It’s how control, delusion and illusion is maintained. The people who make the rules about such things very often refuse to abide by the same rules for themselves. You will learn this as you grow up. No article in the history of RCG has ever been written…yet, that is so chillling as this one. I urge you to think long and hard about its implications to your learning and growing in the real truths that, believe it or not, are not the exclusive property of the one small church and Pastor you have just happened to find yourself in association with. I also want you to suspect other reasons for this being dictated to the teens, while adults were also thrown into the mix in a mere one line as well. Nothing in any Church, Government or Organization is as one is led to believe on the surface…NOTHING. To blog or not to blog is YOUR choice. To have or not to have a website for any reason, is YOUR choice and the choice of your ADULT parents. No church or man has the right to control your access to the free flow of friends, information, opinions or even bullshit. You’ll never develope a BS Meter is you aren’t exposed to it. I personally think you are more than you think. Even the proverbs say that it is no great thing to have a totally clean barn, with no cow pies on the floor, as it might indicate you have no animals to oversee on your great farm. Remember, fish can’t live in pure water. It destroys their immune systems and is an unreal environment in which to thrive as a fish. Are you not better than a fish…oh ye of little faith? Much knowledge might bring much suffering but no knowledge brings unnecessary fear, guilt, shame and pure misery. Stand up for yourself. Tell your church to mind its own business and not yours. Surgery Malpractice

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By Kevin Stith Malpractice is a legal term that refers to various different circumstances such as misconduct and improper performance causing damage to a patient. Surgery malpractice is a surgeon’s failure to provide enough treatment to patients leading to an injury, substantial loss of income, or even death to a patient. These surgical operation mistakes made by surgeons and health professionals who perform major operations on patients, are due to some sort of negligence. Causes of surgery malpractice The practices on the operating room that may cause sloppy surgical performance or flawed surgical operation include the following: incorrect incision, use of unsanitary surgical utensils, organ puncture or perforation, delayed surgery, surgery on wrong organ, and prolonged surgery. These surgical mistakes will most likely lead to serious complications and, in severe cases, death. Instances of surgery malpractice Every time an individual has to undergo a surgical operation, whether it is as simple as an appendectomy or as serious as heart transplant, there will always be the risks of surgery malpractice since surgical negligence may happen in any kind of medical operation. Even the simple cosmetic surgical procedures may lead to surgery malpractice due to negligence. The most common types of operations where surgical errors usually occur are childbirth, gastric bypass, cardiothoracic, rhinoplasty, thoracic surgery, and laparoscopic intestinal surgery. Among the top diseases that will be able to receive monetary awards, in terms of dollar values, due to surgery malpractice include cancer (breast, lung, colon, and rectal), heart problems, and appendicitis. The severity of these conditions tends to explain the large monetary awards involved. Facing the truth about surgery malpractice In the United States alone, approximately 225,000 people suffer or even die every year due to negligent acts of health care professionals and services. This makes surgery and medical malpractice among the leading causes of death in the country, together with cancer and heart disease fatalities. Malpractice provides detailed information on Malpractice, Medical Malpractice, Medical Malpractice Attorney, Dental Malpractice and more. Malpractice is affiliated with Whistleblower Protection Acts. Essiac - The Facts Behind The Controversial Herbal Tea Essiac

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By Robert Scheer Renee Caisse was a Registered Nurse in Canada when she developed the recipe for Essiac, an herbal tea that has been used as an alternative cancer treatment for more than 80 years. But Nurse Caisse did not claim to have invented the recipe for Essiac. In 1922, Renee Caisse met an elderly woman who told her an amazing story. The woman said she once had breast cancer, but it was cured by drinking tea made from certain herbs that grew in northern Ontario. Furthermore, she said the formula had been given to her by an old Native Indian healer — a traditional medicine man. Years later, when Ms. Caisse’s aunt was diagnosed with cancer, Renee remembered the formula she had written down. With the permission of her aunt’s doctor, Ms. Caisse brewed a batch of the herbal tea and gave it to her aunt. In her book, “I was Canada’s Cancer Nurse,” Caisse wrote that, after having been given up by the medical profession as hopeless, her aunt lived for 21 more years after being treated with her herbal tea. She said that her aunt’s doctor was so impressed, he asked Caisse to use her formula on some of his other cancer patients. Caisse went on to set up a clinic in Bracebridge, Ontario, where she used Essiac to tread thousands of cancer patients. One doctor who was particularly impressed by Caisse’s work was Frederic J. Banting, who won a Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1923 for the discovery of insulin. In her book, Caisse quotes Dr. Banting as saying “Essiac must actuate the pancreatic gland into normal functioning.” Nevertheless, the medical establishment continues to be skeptical about the efficacy of Essiac. It is against the law to claim that Essiac is a cure for any medical ailment, so the herbal tea is currently being marketed as a dietary supplement. The esteemed cancer researcher, Ralph W. Moss, Ph.D. reported that Essiac was tested in the 1970s at two well-respected cancer research institutes, both of which concluded that Essiac was not proven to cause any anti-cancer activity in animals. Nevertheless, Dr. Moss said, Essiac “remains worth investigating” for two reasons: on-going anecdotal reports of its usefulness and because the individual ingredients used in the Essiac formula have been proven to possess anti-cancer properties. The four herbs in the original Essiac formula are Slippery Elm inner bark, Burdock root, Sheep Sorrel and Indian Rhubarb Root. In conclusion, it should be noted that the name Essiac comes from the backward spelling of Renee Caisse’s last name.
